Royal Avenue, Belfast 1901
I was hoping to see the shop front but no joy, still an interesting video though
Hunter & Son Catalogue
Not an awful lot of use but still nice to have. It references guns on the first page and cartridges on the last.
The bookshop guessed that it was Printed around 1920, which would tie in with 1918 being the last information I have
Click below link to view the 5 pages I scanned in:
1918 Still in Manse Road
Another search of http://www.lennonwylie.co.uk shows William Hunter still living in Manse Road
1918: William Hunter, gun maker, Inch Bony, Manse Road
Son running the company
This census form shows that Adam has a son William and also shows William describing himself as a gunmaker. I assume that at the time he was running the company as he has described his father as an “Invalid” suffering from rheumatism
William is now 42 in 1911 and his father Adam 73. We can also see that Adam was born in Scotland and had william in Belfast, I assume to his late wife.
This shows the family living at 20 Manse Road, Bangor, Down
Hunter & Son but no sign of Hunter & Kirker
The same directory http://www.lennonwylie.co.uk shows records of Hunter and Sons in 1901, 1907, 1908, 1910 and 1918 all at 62 Royal Avenue, Belfast
This search of http://www.lennonwylie.co.uk Belfast street directory shows up Adam Hunter living in Belfast as a gunsmith and later as a gunmaker
1877: Adam Hunter, gunsmith, 117 McClure Street
1880: Adam Hunter, gunmaker, 33 Belmore Street
